Windows media player on windows 7 problem?

My laptop is a 32bit windows 7 dell vostro 1000. and it didnt come with a windows media player. I purchased the software ( lastest version) and when installing, they said that my system has the latest version already, whereby i have none, and iv checked my program files and everywhere in my local disk and it just isnt there...i seriously need the media player and not any other one cuz with it, i can get another software that works with it...please help!
